Helping homeless people help themselves

CATH is one of Chester's leading charities, founded in 1972 to provide help and support to the area's homeless people.

But CATH isn't simply about providing emergency accommodation and soup kitchens. Its work covers a long and complex journey of helping homeless people to rebuild their lives, with the ultimate aim of enabling them to once again move back into mainstream housing.

The charity currently has a day centre, overnight emergency accommodation, a hostel and shared houses to take people through the process of improving their situation.

There are 54 beds available across the range of accommodation and an additional 500 people annually come to CATH for support in areas associated with being homeless which includes, education and training, food, clothing and somewhere to shower and wash clothes.

It's a demanding process but one that is supported by a skilful and dedicated staff, with additional support from committed volunteers, that sees all social, mental and physical health and education needs assessed and hopefully tackled.

But this cannot be achieved alone and CATH works closely with other statutory and voluntary bodies to ensure this expansive and groundbreaking work continues for the benefit of people in crisis in Chester.
