Helping homeless people help themselves

Support Us

CATH wouldn't be able to provide the level of support and the broad range of services it does without volunteers.

Nor would we be able to help the number of people we do each year without financial gifts.

Become a CATH volunteer

DO YOU have time to spare? Do you want to fill it with something challenging yet rewarding? Then become a CATH volunteer.

CATH works with the city's homeless to help them rebuild their lives – but it's work that requires a lot of energy and enthusiasm from others.

While we have paid professionals who provide specific care skills we're always looking for volunteers to keep our services running.

If you have a skill we'll find a use for it from admin and fundraising to preparing and serving food, or simply having the time to sit with clients and chat over a cup of tea.

Our clients need support to find their feet again so working with CATH and watching people as they journey through the rebuilding process to eventually finding homes of their own, jobs and a secure future is an amazingly rewarding experience.

It doesn't need to be a huge commitment. Whatever time you can spare, from a couple of hours a month to a couple of days a week, will be welcomed. And age is no barrier either. Our volunteers range from students in their teens and 20s to retired people in their 80s. Maturity is no barrier.

Fundraising for CATH

Donations and community fundraising are an essential part of our income which helps us to provide the level and range of services we do.

It couldn't be easier to help us:

Sleepout, sleep in or sleepover

Each winter a group of hardy volunteers are sponsored to 'sleep out' for one night in a Chester car park to raise money for us – usually around £10,000.

Alternatively if you'd like to support us from the comfort of your own bed and have a 'sleep in' give us a call or go on line to find out how to make a donation.

If you're too young to sleep out but want to help us fundraise, why not organise a sleep over? Get a group of your friends together and ask your parents or carers to sponsor you to NOT keep them awake all night!

If you want to join us sleeping out, in or over contact us on 01244 314834 or email for a sponsorship pack.

Leave a gift in your will

Remembering CATH in your will is a special and personal way to make your concern for the homeless felt for many years to come. It doesn't need to be a big donation to make a big difference.

If you would like to leave CATH a gift in your will, the best way forward is to contact your solicitor for impartial advice. We don't need any specific wording but do need you to include our Registered Charity number 1074401

Why we need fundraising

Through client housing benefit and grants from other charities, businesses and statutory authorities, we are able to meet our core accommodation commitments. But we are determined to continue to go further than that and provide the facilities needed to help people sort their problems and start again. It is private fundraising and donations that enable us to offer the full support needed to rebuild lives, including access to skilled staff, counselling, advice services, showers and clothes washing facilities and hot meals.
